Using your old vehicle to inspire LASTING HOPE
LIFE-CHANGE IN MINUTES
Donating is easy and will change someone’s life! Your decision to donate your vehicle will create lasting hope for an individual – or family – in need.
THREE EASY STEPS
COMPLETE THE FORM
Fill out the online donation form. We will notify you by email or phone within 24 hours of receiving your form.
Note: We will respond to forms submitted in the evening or on the weekend the next business day.
SCHEDULE FREE PICK-UP
That’s right – free! One of our representatives will drive it away, or we’ll have it towed. You can download the vehicle donation checklist HERE.
RECEIVE TAX RECEIPT
A donation receipt is provided at the time of the vehicle pick up. We’ll email a tax receipt once your donation is processed and either awarded to a recipient, sold at auction, or purchased.
If applicable, we will provide the appropriate forms 1098C and 8283 for all donations.
Chariots4Hope’s vehicle donors may gain a more favorable tax advantage since we award the donated vehicles to people in need. IRS regulations allow many Chariots4Hope donors to claim their car’s full fair market value—the maximum permitted by law.
We have licensed professional mechanics to inspect each donation to determine the best approach in securing the greatest value for the families Chariots4Hope serves while maximizing the vehicle donor’s tax deduction.
Depending on the condition and/or value of certain vehicles, there are times where we are unable to utilize donated cars to assist a person in need.
We still are able to sell these vehicles and apply the proceeds towards our mission.
Say you want to donate A 2000 Honda Civic. You receive bigger tax advantages when you donate to Chariots4Hope.
Most other programs sell your 2000 Honda Civic at a local auction for around $700. Your tax deduction = $700
If we use your donation in our Vehicle Ownership Program, the donor may claim the fair market value of the civic (per the example given). By going this route, your tax deduction goes from $700 to $2200.
We are an approved 501c(3) charitable organization. Our non-profit status allows all donated vehicles to be tax-deductible. Over 99% of United States charities transform donated vehicles into revenue. Not with us!
At Chariots4Hope, we will determine if your vehicle is well suited to be awarded to an individual or family in need of dependable transportation during our vehicle donation inspection.
Consult your tax advisor and review the following IRS documents in the buttons below.
AWARDED TO RECIPIENT
To repair and detail the car and award it to a qualified low-income family.
Donors can deduct the vehicle’s fair market value. Our goal is to restore the vehicle and provide approximately two or more years of reliable service. They are then awarded to low-income individuals and families at a price significantly below fair market value. On average, these vehicles are 12 – 15 years old and have fewer than 150,000 miles; however, some cars are outside of this range.
SOLD THROUGH C4H
To repair and detail the car and sell it to a qualified low-income individual. All proceeds support our mission.
Donors can deduct the vehicle’s selling price, which is usually close to the fair market value of the vehicle. Low-income recipients who usually don’t qualify for traditional lending then purchase the vehicle at close to fair market value.
SOLD TO PUBLIC
To detail the donated car and then sell it to the general public. “As is” vehicles have minimal to no repairs completed. We communicate all known damages to the potential buyer, and all proceeds support our mission.
Donors can deduct the vehicle’s selling price, which ranges from the fair market value depending on the condition of the “as is” vehicle. We offer these vehicles to the general public and do not require a referral from one of our qualified Referring Organizations.
High-value vehicles that may be expensive for our recipients to insure, repair, and maintain. • Vehicles with substantial repairs but still worth more than a salvage/junk value.
SALVAGE & AUCTION SALE
To send the donated vehicle to one of our auction or salvage partners to achieve the best selling price.
Donors can deduct the selling price of their vehicle with a minimum deduction of $500.00. On average, vehicles at auction can sell anywhere from 1/3 or below the car’s fair market value. The price varies based on the year, make, model, and damages of each vehicle.
Vehicles that require major repair (engine, transmission) • Vehicles that don’t meet our reliability standards and wouldn’t be cost-effective to restore.
