WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM?
Welcome to our Vehicle Ownership Program, where we empower individuals to secure a vehicle and build a sustainable long-term transportation plan. At Chariots4Hope, we understand that reliable transportation is not just a convenience; it’s a lifeline to opportunity.
That’s why we offer two pathways tailored to fit your unique circumstances and our program qualifications: the First Wheel Program and the Second Wheel Program.
This program exists to guide you toward the independence and freedom that comes with owning your own vehicle.
CLASSES REQUIRED
Prior to acceptance into our Vehicle Ownership Program, all applicants must fulfill several prerequisites. These include attending an in-person orientation session, submitting required documentation, and completing a series of online educational classes titled “Drive4Success.” This online course covers essential topics such as Insurance Fundamentals, Vehicle Maintenance, and Financial Literacy regarding transportation expenses.
Successful completion of each lesson is contingent upon passing a comprehensive test. Our aim is to ensure that participants emerge from our program well-informed and prepared for their journey on the road ahead!
FIRST WHEEL
The First Wheel Program is our foundational program designed to assist those facing the most urgent transportation challenges. Eligible participants can acquire a vehicle for just $500 through this program. These vehicles serve as essential means to commute from point A to point B, with an intended lifespan of 18-24 months.
Engaging in a series of informative classes, this program unfolds over several months, equipping participants with essential skills for vehicle ownership.
WHO QUALIFIES?
Here are the core qualifications of First Wheel
Must be referred by Referring Organization and working with them for at least 90 days
Be working (SSI income will be considered)
Be insurable and provide a state driving history record
Must complete Drive4Success classes
Must pass a drug screen at client’s own expense
Must not have a working vehicle in their household
Be financially able to cover fees for registration, tags, and title
Must have a discretionary income of $400/mo
If under the age of 24, must be a parent with custody of children or working towards reunification
Commit to participate in our Road2Freedom Program
Have a valid Driver’s License
Must fall within our low-income bracket
SECOND WHEEL
The Second Wheel Program caters to individuals prepared to invest a minimum of $3,000 in purchasing a vehicle. Eligible participants gain access to our inventory of affordably priced used vehicles.
Engaging in essential classes, this program, like its counterpart, spans over several months, ensuring participants are equipped with the necessary knowledge for successful vehicle ownership.
WHO QUALIFIES?
Must be referred by Referring Organization and working with them for at least 90 days
Must have valid driver’s license
Must fall within our low-income bracket
Must have minimum of $3,000 saved and ready to purchase a vehicle
Must be financially able to cover fees for registration, tags, and title
Must complete Drive4Success classes

THIRD WHEEL
The 3rd Wheel Program offers both 3rd party and in-house financing for approved recipients. This initiative is tailored to support low-income families who need reliable transportation but may face challenges securing traditional financing.
3rd Wheel is designed to provide reliable vehicles to low-income families through flexible financing options.

We do not rely on traditional credit checks, making it easier for individuals with poor or no credit to get approved for a car loan.

SHOPPING
Since this program also provides lending, recipients can shop for a vehicle and secure financing in one place, simplifying the car-buying process.
FLEXIBLE
DOWN-PAYMENTS
We offer more flexibility in terms of down payment amounts, which can be beneficial for buyers with limited savings.
REBUILDING FINANCIAL STANDING
We report payments to credit bureaus, providing an opportunity for recipients to improve their credit scores with regular, on-time payments; which can help in securing traditional financing in the future.
IN-HOUSE FINANCING TERMS
Terms and conditions of the loan can often be more negotiable, allowing for tailored payment plans that fit the buyer’s financial situation.

We’re willing to work with customers facing financial hardships, such as bankruptcy or previous repossessions.
