When Hope Shows Up Right on Time

Every year, Chariots4Hope ends the year with a campaign we call Crazy Surprises. It’s simple in concept and powerful in impact. We listen to stories, we pray, and we step in with generosity that has no strings attached. Not because money fixes everything, but because love, dignity, and being seen can change everything.

Our first Crazy Surprise this year was for DeVenea. After walking through deep tragedy and heartbreak, she was referred to us by a friend who believed her story mattered. We surprised her with over $1,000, but what followed meant far more. She later shared that for the first time in a long time, she felt loved, seen, cared for, and valued. She said the prayer spoken over her restored her faith and reminded her that God had not forgotten her. That moment was not the climax of her story. It was a launchpad for what’s ahead.

Our second Crazy Surprise went to James and Renee, a family who came through the Chariots4Hope program nearly eight years ago. Recently, they have faced multiple unexpected medical crises, with bills piling up faster than they could manage. When we heard what they were carrying, we knew we wanted to come alongside them. We surprised them with a $1,200 gift to help lift some of the weight they’ve been bearing.

Next, we surprised Kaylee, a single mom who lost nearly everything in an apartment fire. Despite such devastating loss, she has continued to work hard and remain encouraged. We surprised her with $1,200, and afterward she told us that Christmas was going to look completely different for her family this year. Moments like that remind us why we do this.

Our final Crazy Surprise went to Adonna, a single mom who works tirelessly to provide for her family. After hearing her story, we were honored to bless her with $1,200 to help make Christmas possible for her kids. She is hardworking, deserving, and deeply loved.

Crazy Surprises are about more than financial help. They are about reminding people that they are not invisible, that their story matters, and that God’s care often shows up through the hands of others. As we close out this year, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of these moments and excited to see how each of these stories continues to unfold.

Hope is alive, and sometimes it shows up when you least expect it.
